About this Policy
Major Roofing Pty Ltd (“Major Roofing”, “we”, “us” or “our”) provides roof restoration, repairs, re-roofing, tiling, painting and related roofing services across Melbourne’s south-east and eastern suburbs.
We respect your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information, and how you can access or correct it or make a complaint. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy applies to personal information we collect through our website at https://majorroofing.com.au (the “Website”), by phone, by email, in person, on site at your property, and through our advertising.
“Personal information” means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether true or not and whether recorded in a material form or not.
What personal information we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
- Contact details – your name, phone number, email address and postal address.
- Property details – the address of the property where work is requested, details about the roof and its condition, access arrangements, and whether you are the owner, tenant or property manager.
- Enquiry and job information – the details you give us in our quote or contact form, messages, notes of phone calls, quotes, contracts, invoices, job records and warranty information.
- Photos and videos – images of your roof and property taken during inspections or work, or that you send to us. We aim to avoid capturing people, number plates or other identifying features in these images.
- Payment information – records of payments made to us. If you pay by card or bank transfer, we do not store full card numbers; card payments are processed by our payment provider.
- Feedback and reviews – comments, testimonials or reviews you provide to us or post about us (for example on Google).
- Website and advertising data – information collected automatically when you visit our Website or interact with our ads, such as your IP address, device and browser type, approximate location, pages viewed, time spent on pages, how you arrived at our Website (for example, by clicking a Google ad), and whether you submitted an enquiry. See section 5.
For suppliers, subcontractors and job applicants, we may also collect business details, licences, insurance details, qualifications, work history and referee details.
We do not generally collect sensitive information (such as health information or information about racial or ethnic origin). If we need to (for example, if you tell us about a health condition relevant to access to your property), we will only collect it with your consent or where otherwise permitted by law.
How we collect personal information
We collect personal information directly from you wherever reasonably practicable, including when you:
- complete the quote or contact form on our Website;

- meet us on site for an inspection, quote or job;
- accept a quote, enter into a contract or pay an invoice;
- leave a review or provide feedback; or

We may also collect personal information from third parties, such as a property manager, real estate agent, builder, insurer or family member who contacts us on your behalf, from referral partners, from publicly available sources, and from our service providers (including Google, as described in section 5).
Unsolicited information. If we receive personal information that we did not ask for and could not have collected under this policy, we will destroy or de-identify it where it is lawful and reasonable to do so.

We will only use or disclose your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, for a related purpose you would reasonably expect, with your consent, or where otherwise required or authorised by law.
Our Website: cookies, Google Analytics and Google Ads
Cookies
Our Website uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small data file placed on your device that allows a website to recognise your browser. Some cookies are necessary for the Website to function; others help us understand Website use and measure advertising.
You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies. If you do, some parts of the Website may not work as intended.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use our Website (for example, which pages are visited, how long visitors stay and how they found our Website). Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your device, browser, approximate location and interactions with the Website. We use this information in aggregated form to improve our Website and services and we do not use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors.
You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
Google Ads
We advertise using Google Ads. We may use:
- Conversion tracking – to measure whether people who clicked on our ads went on to contact us or submit an enquiry; and
- Remarketing / audience features – to show our ads to people who have previously visited our Website when they browse other websites or use Google services.
Google may use cookies and similar identifiers to do this. Google, and not Major Roofing, determines how it uses information collected through its services.
You can manage or turn off personalised ads from Google at https://adssettings.google.com (My Ad Center). You can find out more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
Links to other websites
Our Website may contain links to other websites (such as Google reviews or social media). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, and we recommend you read their privacy policies.
Direct marketing
We may use your contact details to send you information about our services, seasonal maintenance reminders or special offers, where you have consented or would reasonably expect us to do so (for example, as an existing customer).
Every marketing email or SMS we send will include a simple way to unsubscribe. You can also opt out at any time by contacting us using the details in section 13. We will action your request within a reasonable time and at no cost to you. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth).
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Who we disclose personal information to
We may disclose your personal information to:
- our employees, subcontractors and tradespeople who carry out work at your property;
- suppliers and manufacturers of roofing materials, where needed to order materials or honour warranties;
- service providers who help us run our business, such as IT, website hosting and maintenance, website design and digital marketing providers, cloud storage, email and SMS, job-management, accounting and payment-processing providers;
- Google, in connection with Google Analytics and Google Ads (see section 5);
- our professional advisers, such as accountants, lawyers and insurers;
- property managers, agents, builders or insurers acting for you, where you have asked us to deal with them or it is reasonably expected;
- debt collection agencies, if an invoice remains unpaid; and
- government bodies, regulators, courts or law enforcement, where required or authorised by law (for example, the Victorian Building Authority, WorkSafe Victoria or the Australian Taxation Office).
We require our service providers to handle personal information only for the purposes for which we disclose it and to protect it appropriately.
Disclosure of personal information overseas
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia. In particular, Google (including Google Analytics and Google Ads) may store and process data in the United States and other countries where Google or its affiliates operate.
Where we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it in a way that is consistent with the APPs, except where an exception under the Privacy Act applies.
How we hold and protect personal information
We hold personal information in electronic form (including in cloud-based software, email and our phones and devices) and, in some cases, in paper form.
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include password-protected and access-restricted systems, multi-factor authentication where available, secure Website (HTTPS) connections, limiting access to people who need the information to do their jobs, and secure storage and disposal of paper records.
No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure. If you have concerns about sending information to us online, please contact us by phone.
Data breaches. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to any individual, we will act promptly to contain and assess it and, where required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
How long we keep personal information
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. For example:
- tax and financial records are generally kept for at least 5 years, as required by taxation law; and
- job, contract and warranty records may be kept for up to 10 years after work is completed, reflecting the limitation period for building actions under the Building Act 1993 (Vic).
Enquiries that do not proceed to a job are kept for up to 2 years and then deleted. When personal information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to securely destroy or de-identify it.
Anonymity and pseudonyms
You may choose to deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym, for example when making a general enquiry about our services or pricing. However, we will usually need your name, contact details and property address to provide a quote, carry out work and issue invoices.
Access and correction
We take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we hold is accurate, up to date, complete and relevant.
You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us using the details in section 13. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will respond within a reasonable period, usually within 30 days.
We will not charge you for making a request or for correcting your information. We may charge a reasonable fee to cover the cost of providing access, and will tell you about any fee beforehand.
If we refuse to give you access or to correct your information, we will tell you why in writing (unless it would be unreasonable to do so) and how you can complain. If we do not agree to correct your information, you may ask us to attach a statement to the information noting that you believe it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading.
